Inspiring local heroes Lincoln Heights School

Categories Featured

Lincoln Heights School, Auckland, has been part of KickStart Breakfast since 2009. We reached out to the principal, Leisha Byrnes, to find out about one of their very special people within their school who supports their KickStart Breakfast club!

“In every school there are heroes. In our school Gordon is ours, he doesn't wear a cape or leap tall buildings, but he does make a difference. Every day he turns up and runs our well attended and much-appreciated breakfast club. It's a fun place to come and have a warm and nutritious start to your day. It's not the set up of the tables, the buttering of countless pieces of toast or milk that he pours onto cereal every day that makes him so amazing, but the values that he encourages in our children and the time he takes to get to know each and everyone that makes a difference to them.

If we didn't have the support of the KickStart Breakfast programme, being able to provide a healthy breakfast and have an amazing person nurturing our children would be just another barrier to them being well-fed, ready to learn and feeling a sense of belonging. Gordon has a heart for our children and staff and is driven to ensure all children have positive learning experiences and know they have a place they belong to. His great sense of humour and ability to relate to both children, their families and our wider community makes him a taonga the school community is lucky to have”

We know there are many more ‘Gordon’s’ out there supporting our KickStart Breakfast clubs! If you’d like to share or thank-you local heroes, send the team an email at kickstart.breakfast@fonterra.com
