Celebrating our Volunteers! Meet Mr. Harry – The Heart Behind Our Breakfast Club At Levin School

At Levin School, we’re lucky to have many wonderful people supporting our tamariki — and today, we’d like to introduce one of our quiet heroes: Mr. Harry. Mr. Harry is the kind of person who makes magic happen behind the scenes. After more than 30 years teaching in our Special Needs Unit, he officially retired — but his heart never left. With his grandchildren now attending Levin School, his connection is stronger than ever.

So when the opportunity came up to run our KickStart Breakfast Club, Mr. Harry didn’t hesitate. He volunteered on the spot — and he’s been showing up early every morning ever since. Each day, Mr. Harry sets up the school hall for breakfast, arranging tables and adding thoughtful touches. Last week, for Daffodil Day, he placed daffodils on every table. It’s these small gestures that make a big difference. But more than decorations, Mr. Harry brings warmth and care. He knows that a good breakfast helps children start their day right — especially those who may not have eaten at home.

A full tummy means better focus, fewer behavior challenges, and a brighter start to learning. He’s also noticed the change in some of our tamariki. Children who were once shy and withdrawn now arrive at Breakfast Club smiling and chatty. That’s the power of consistency, kindness, and a bowl of Weet-Bix.

So here’s to Mr. Harry — our breakfast-time legend, table-decorating extraordinaire, and all-around school treasure. Thank you for everything you do!
